Living with Improved Frameworks for Enhanced Supportive Care in Cancer (LIFE) study launched!

The UKASCC Enhanced Supportive Care (ESC) National Collaborative working with the University of Southampton has launched the first phase of the LIFE study. This study aims to build a picture of what supportive care services are available nationally.

We are inviting you to participate in a survey about what supportive care services are available for people living in the UK with cancer.   Supportive care is the prevention and management of the adverse effects of cancer and its treatment. This includes management of physical and psychological symptoms and side effects across the continuum of the cancer journey from diagnosis through treatment to post-treatment care. Supportive care aims to improve the quality of rehabilitation, secondary cancer prevention, survivorship, and end-of-life care.  We know that supportive care is provided in different ways, in a variety of settings (inpatient/outpatient/community/hospice) by a range of health care professionals. Your team may be known as an Enhanced Supportive Care (ESC) team or go by a different name. We are interested in hearing from any service that provides supportive care to patients with incurable cancer in the outpatient setting. We suggest the team lead completes the survey on behalf of the service, and only one survey needs to be completed for each site.

Below is a link to the questionnaire, the first page contains information about the research to help you decide if you would like to take part and there is a check box at the bottom of this to confirm your consent to participate in the study.  Once you have read the information and checked the box you will be able to proceed to the questionnaire.  The questionnaire should take about 20minutes to complete.  If you have any questions about the information or the questionnaire I can be contacted at l.calman@soton.ac.uk to answer your questions.

This study was approved by the Faculty Research Ethics Committee (FREC) at the University of Southampton (Ethics/ERGO Number ERGO ID 103178 and approved by the HRA IRAS project ID 350085
