Michael Baliousis

Clinical Psychologist and Prehabilitation Lead

Dr Michael Baliousis is a Clinical Psychologist and Prehabilitation Lead in the Macmillan Cancer Psychology Service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, and an Honorary Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham. He leads UKASCC's Mental Health and Emotional Well-being workstream. Michael works clinically with people affected by cancer and leads a clinical research programme in psychological prehabilitation. The programme looks at the psychological and behavioural factors that shape treatment, recovery and quality of life, and develops home and digital interventions to address them early. His work combines psychological prognosis, co-production and digital innovation. He contributed to the revised national cancer prehabilitation guidelines and wants psychologically informed care built into multidisciplinary cancer teams from the outset.
